Oh.
Hi December. Nice to see you again.
Hi December. Nice to see you again.
In Gainesville again. Although this year my meal was different than last year’s. I made an organic turkey burger (how fitting) on Mosswood Farm Store organic olive and parmesan bread (baked in a wood fired oven) with veganaise and asiago cheese. Organic (canned) minestrone soup, splashed with red curried lentil soup (also canned, also organic). Dessert? Not very conventional but a piece of Escazu’s small batch 67% beaufort bar. I’m thankful to be spending some time with Red and I’m excited about our upcoming two year anniversary.
Holy shit, could this be real? I’m finally done reconstructing the menu for The Jones. I have (happily) been consumed by work, be it asking for egg temps at The Jones, making macchiatos at Civilization, or working on The Jones menu and flyers. I’m psyched for the debut on Friday. I haven’t seen my roommate for a week, have felt extremely sorry for Red, and have smoked way too many American Spirits. Now I am starting a really exciting project with my sister. It feels good to be busy. Luckily I have still had time to garden and do some light reading. Still need to plan more for India, though. Other than that, I listened to The Ramones today and it made everything feel a little better, happier, complete. Oh and guess what came in the mail today? My Canon, LCD intact!
New flyer I just made for The Jones.
138 days until India.
Feeling a bit under the weather for the past couple of days. I’ve got upper respiratory congestion and a thick cough. My voice is hoarse. I left early from work today, and called Cody for an Ayurvedic remedy to my ills. Fresh ginger tea and triphala made me feel a little better.
He and Veronica were feeling a bit overwhelmed by caring for too many roosters, so we slaughtered one to make soup. It was quite emotional to pick up this beautiful red rooster, knowing where you are taking it, watching its neck get sliced, then holding it again - this time, lifeless. We plucked it (feathers featured above), gutted it, cleaned it and chopped it up. We picked out some fresh mustard greens from the garden and he made the most delicious homemade, local, and organic chicken soup. He gave me some some lemongrass, ginger and licorice root to take home and I am drinking what is the tastiest fresh herbal tea I’ve ever had. It’s moving to have picked out, slaughtered, and consumed an animal all within a half-day. Nothing like chicken soup to make one feel better, though.
I am forever grateful to Veronica and Cody for teaching me so much about consuming food that you have raised/grown. Last week I fluffed three new beds for their organic garden. The feeling is absolutely remarkable - to know I am putting energy back into the earth.
This song has been in my head recently. She & Him do a really wonderful cover of it.
